Queen of Night

March 15th, 2009
Featuring: Kaitlyn Cross - ~KaitlynxCross

I'm very pleased to introduce Kaitlyn Cross. How many ways can I say it? I'm just so happy with this photo.

I'm comfortable saying this is my favourite work of the last year. If you're thinking of promoting me, or featuring me in any way, this is the one image I'm not ashamed to ask for help spreading around.

X - First Book by Ian X.

This collection shows the photos selected for my first book. To see a cool preview, or buy the book, visit this page.

Pricing
Softcover - $29.95
Hardcover - $50.00

Note: I know a lot of people can't afford this sort of thing, so I am trying something different. The softcover version of the book will be only $29.95-- and it's just as high quality as the hardcover. If you can't afford much, consider that version. If you can afford more, and want to support me, consider the hardcover.

Crow Witch - Ayame

This is the photograph I am consistently most proud of, out of all of my eight years of photography. Thanks so much to Ayame for being an amazing model, and to Lady Luck for how well this one came out.

Recent Best

These are some works that I want to spotlight as standing out among my most recent works.

Newest

Here are the latest works I have posted.

My DDs

My Daily Deviations so far in my time on DeviantArt.

The first is thanks to ^opioid and was given on my first night adding images to DA. I was uploading, and saw all the comments, and didn't realize right away what was happening.

The second is thank to ^Helewidis and is special to me, because it's a photo about my photography, which makes it not only very "Meta" but also very personal.

The third comes as a total shock. It isn't my favourite image, but I'm proud of the variety it shows in my portfolio. Thanks to ^opioid for surprising the crap out of me.

The fourth isn't really my DD, but this seemed like the best place to mention it. At my suggestion, ^RockstarVanity awarded a DD to *theadacat for an image we created together.

Critiques

This may be one of the best works, in a great gallery. This captures your beauty, but also has a very personal and real feel-- the view...

I love the new critique system, and have found the time to make use of it a few times for some works that caught my attention. I tend to focus on works deserving of great praise, but where I see tangible ways they could be improved upon. I hope I don't seem to diminish excellence by measuring its distance from genius.

My DD Suggestions

A few of the images which I have nominated, that were chosen as Daily Deviations. (There have been quite a few, all listed in this collection.)

Project Self-Estememe

All of the images in this collection have come out of Project: Self-Estememe. This is an ongoing project to encourage better self-esteem through glamour self-portraits.

For more information, see the Original Article. If you have results (or a journal nominating someone) to share, visit the Call for Results Article.

My Work Posted by Models

You may recognize these images, but the copies here were posted by the models, not by me. Go check out their lovely galleries!

I AINTN'T DED
Sorry to everyone for pretty much disappearing from DeviantArt for a while there-- I've been busy lately, mostly with non-photography stuff. It's partly because I don't have new photos, and I didn't want to go nuts with the polls and journals and stuff while I was having art withdrawal.

Mostly, the lack of new art is because the studio I work out of is in the process of moving location, and it is taking longer than expected. It was supposed to be a seamless move on May 1st, but now I suspect it will be some time in July. As you can imagine, it's frustrating-- especially with the weird weather we're having in the Northeast this "Summer".

Hopefully, I will have news on new shoots for you soon, and firmer news on some of the books and magazines where you will be able to see my photos later this year. I promise to keep you posted!

JPG Mag
While I have been short on new art to post here, I have been catching up on posting some of my portfolio over on JPG Magazine.

For those of you who haven't heard, the website-- and the print magazine-- are back, after some financial trouble. I like the idea, so I'm trying to support them by getting involved. (DeviantArt still feels more like home though.)

You can check out my profile there via This Link. Please let me know if you are a member too, so I can add you.

I would also really appreciate it if you would vote for my current photos over there, to help them have a better chance of being published in the next issue.

The one I'm really pushing for, as it is doing well so far, is
"Jade Empress of Masks" in Color Theory:

It would also help me get published in JPG Mag if you could vote for
"White : out" in The World of Tomorrow

and
"Dude" in Gender Roles

Finally, the following photos are "Hot" over there now, and more attention might help me out as well.

"Back" in The Things We Carry: [link]

"The Succubus" in Dangerous: [link]

"Anonymous Casefiles" in Meta: [link]

"Curious Peering" in Anticipation: [link]

Ian X. is a self-taught fine art portrait photographer, who began his work at the turn of the Millenium while a student in the United Kingdom. He studied Philosophy at Reed College in Oregon, the University of St Andrews in Scotland, and the University of Sheffield in England. Born in New Hampshire, he now works out of a studio in Lawrence, MA and resides in Malden, MA.

When asked to describe his work, Ian responds, "I mostly take strange portraits of beautiful girls, or maybe it's the other way 'round. My constant themes have been contrast (both visual and conceptual), beauty, darkness, personality, and the unnatural or supernatural. The same character, whether it's the subject herself or a fictional creation, should be seen as both powerful and vulnerable-- either predator or prey-- within an instant."

I also consider paid shoots, for characters, personal glamour shots, self-promotion, and the like. I have worked photographing fashion designs, jewelry, medieval garb, musicians, and more. If you're looking for attractive photos of yourself, my style will guarantee distinctive results. For more information, visit [link]

Thanks for more + favorites Ian. But to be honest, the only things I updated on those Introduction shots were the addition of my logo because I forgot to the first time around and it took me this long to stop being lazy and put it on there. -.-'
Thanks for the fave today, love your latest with Kaitlyn Cross :)
You're welcome-- and thanks!
